Quivira Park

This week I visited Quivira Park. This is one of the smaller parks I've rated so far but I've been here before, so I knew what to expect. It's right off of the street and some of the trails are even fairly close to the road. It's surrounded by city so it's quite compact. But when you're actually in the park you can hardly tell. The park is heavily forested, and considering there is no water feature, this is nice.

When you enter the park, there is a small parking lot. Nearby is a restroom/water-fountains and right next to that is a shelter. In this area there is even a Kanas heart, painted as a chocolate strawberry, which is pretty cute. In front of the shelter is a sand volleyball court which I enjoy playing at. Whenever I play here it's always clean. Unless it has just rained, the sand is smooth and spread evenly, which if you've ever played sand volleyball, you know is important. There is also a playground in this area.

In this space there are already paved trails going in a few different directions. In my opinion the trails here are really pretty. As I said before, the trees and plant life really shine through in this park making it a good place to walk in the summer when looking for shade, or in the fall to see the beautiful changing leaves. I also really like biking here; the trails are very smooth and have some light rolling hills. These trails cover and make up most of the park.

While Quivira Park does not have a water feature there are some trails that go over Indian creek. You can see the creek from many of the tiny bridges found on trails.

When rating Quivira Park, I found it was not on par with most of my criteria. That being said I rate this park a 4. In my eyes a 4 doesn't relegate a park as bad. I simply think it's a bit boring. Without any water/unique features and no designated dog space, the park is not specifically interesting, but good for a small stroll. That being said I would categorize Quivira park as enjoyable and well maintained. As far as accessibility, I enlisted the help of google, and my final verdict is no. While there are some accessible spaces, I think the park as a whole is not. Overall, I enjoyed Quivira Park, but I would surely recommend others before this one.
