This week I visited Thomas S. Stoll Memorial Park, or Stoll Park. I've been to this park before but only to take homecoming photos, and never for enjoyment. That being said, the park is pretty. This is certainly one of the smaller parks I've rated. It is only about 80 acres whereas, for comparison, Shawnee Mission Park is 1,655 acres. But where it lacks in space it makes up for in other aspects.
Stoll Park does have a water feature, though small. The pond is a nice view and has plenty of fish. As is true with many Johnson County Parks, you can fish here with a proper license. The park is also home to a nice playground.
Something worth noting is that the trails here are concrete rather than asphalt like other parks I've rated. The tree coverage is not super full either. Walking here definitely required sunglasses and a good heat-bearing attitude. The walking trails are not rigorous though; overall the park was pretty flat and enjoyable.
However, Stoll Park is quite dog friendly. With two off-leash dog areas, one being specifically for small dogs, plenty of space is reserved for furry friends.
Impressively, the park has eleven shelters, which is a lot considering parks like Shawnee Mission and Heritage have around the same amount but are much larger.
I also found the grounds to be clean and well maintained. As far as accessibility, the Johnson County Parks and Recreation website says it's ADA accessible.
In the end I rate Stoll Park a 6. Even with a lot of my grading criteria met, the park simply didn't win me over very well. I enjoyed my time spent here but was not overly impressed. It felt very average, and I didn't find myself stopping to enjoy any views or particular features.
